Health Plans Comparison

No matter what you are shopping for, it is always important to conduct comparisons with the products or services you are looking for. The same also goes for health plans; this can be one of the best ways to boost up the competition out there and get you a good deal. Here are some health plans to look into.

Indemnity health plans are traditional policies that have a fee-for-service option. You also get the most choices compared to other health care plans out there, but there is a price to pay. You get to choose your own doctors and hospitals since there is no “network physicians”. A lot of people opt for this because of this freedom. The Con about this option is that it is pricey. Unlike with other policies, there aren’t any physicians that have agreed to give discounted rates to members of the insurance company, so you are left paying full prices. Once you reach the deductible, the health insurance policy will reimburse you, most of the time 80%; it all depends on the premium rate you chose.

HMOs, or Health Maintenance Organizations, are much more affordable and many people opt for this type of policy. With this, you have a fixed monthly rate and there is a network of physicians to choose from. Once you choose your primary care physician, he or she will be the responsible for your health care. If another specialist is required for a treatment needed, he or she will refer you to one. Then and only then will you be able to use another physician for medical treatments – otherwise you will be responsible for the expenses.
