HMOs, or Health Maintenance Organizations, are much more affordable and many people opt for this type of policy. With this, you have a fixed monthly rate and there is a network of physicians to choose from. Once you choose your primary care physician, he or she will be the responsible for your health care. If another specialist is required for a treatment needed, he or she will refer you to one. Then and only then will you be able to use another physician for medical treatments – otherwise you will be responsible for the expenses.
